Lies Mich

"You should not judge a book by its cover," is a well-known saying.

Tattoos in our age could not fit this saying better.

Before tattoos became a general trend, tattoos were most common among sailors and criminals. Today, tattoos have a sea of personalities and stories behind them.

The photo project "Lies Mich", directly translated "read me" from German, is about the tattoos that characterize the streets of Berlin. This project was carried out through the workshop "Berlin Nights, Berlin Lights" by VII Photo Agency in the German capital October 2019. I want to portray this by combining the tattoos and street art in Berlin. The workshop gave me the opportunity to get better at my visual style, but gave me even more lessons on a personal level.

VII mentors Linda Bournane Engelberth and Danny Wilcox-Fraser both have a strong focus on the human link between photographer and subject.

These mentors challenged my comfort zone when it comes to seeking out strangers on the street, something I did not know was so inhibiting for me until this workshop. I therefore see this photo project as my breakthrough project - a work I am extremely proud of, which revolutionized my self-confidence and ability as a photographer.
